So, the liquid lipstick market has been absolutely thriving over the last year or so with brands releasing them left, right and centre. Not only are they one of the most long wearing lip formulas out there, they stay matte all day long, they don’t smudge and they’re a lot easier to apply than normal lipsticks. When I want to rock a bold lip, it’s my liquid lipstick collection that I start digging around in. I have tried a fair amount of different formulas and as always, with all things beauty, some are better than others; so I thought I would share with you my top 5 picks.
Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit in Dolce K – $29 (£19.71)
If I had to pick one favourite, this would be it. And although they’re a pain to ship over from the US, it’s well worth the wait. This one is for the hardcore long wear lip lovers as you literally have to remove this with a cleansing oil, it pretty much stays on for like a week I swear. I wore this the other day, I applied it around 7.30am and by the time I got back from work that evening at about 7pm it was still there and all I had done was re-apply a bit in the centre of my lips around midday. Mad. Dolce K is the one I reach for the most, but Mary Jo K is also a nice solid red option. Because of their durability and wear, they do go very matte and can be slightly drying if you don’t hydrate your lips before applying. This is probably the shade I wear the most and the slanted applicator means it’s so quick and easy to apply. Believe the hype because these are amazing, I promise.
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colour in Love – £6.99
The newest addition to my liquid lipstick family and possibly one of the best formulas I have tried. It feels so comfortable and non-drying on the lips and it wears beautifully. The formula is so thin meaning they’re extremely easy to apply and they dry super matte on the lips, but aren’t drying like the majority of matte lipsticks. You can also barely feel anything on your lips when you wear these. I would definitely recommend for those of you who were looking for a high end product for a drugstore price.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen – £5.50
This cult makeup brand has recently launched into some Boots in the UK and it is thriving. They have two formulas of matte liquid lipsticks and I can’t decide whether I prefer these lip creams or the liquid suede ones which I have also tried. If you can’t afford to fork out for a Kylie Lip Kit or a MAC liquid lip colour, this product is the best budget brand I have found to date. The pigmentation of all of the colours is amazing and they stay on your lips for hours. Once dry, these lipsticks feel so lightweight that you wouldn’t think you had anything on your lips.
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Canvas – £23
I have to say I am most impressed with the incredible pigmentation of this lipstick. It is extremely opaque and offers more than full coverage which means you only need a touch to get amazing, bold colour pay off. In terms of formula, they are super creamy and smooth and they glide on the lips effortlessly. One layer is more than enough and I wouldn’t recommend more than that. It is recommended to be applied onto bare lips but I found that it is better for it to be applied over a lip balm, otherwise it could get patchy and sink into the cracks on your lips. Once this lipstick is set, it will be completely matte and it won’t budge or bleed! This is the priciest of the bunch but they are so worth the money. I have worn this most days since I received it in my May Cohorted Beauty Box, this is the only shade I own and I am definitely going to be investing in the rest of the collection!
MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Lip Colour in Lady-Be-Good – £21
Lady be good is a beautiful, Kylie Jenner-Esque warm nude with pink and brown undertones. I would say it’s Velvet Teddy in liquid form. The hype of these lipsticks was crazy and I almost thought it was too good to be true – but it wasn’t. This lipstick is a creamy texture, allowing for an easy application. The applicator is also the perfect shape, giving you all the control when you apply it. They dry just seconds after application, leaving a very very matte finish and once this is on your lips, it’s not going anywhere. I am absolutely obsessed with everything about this lipstick – the packaging, the formula, the application, the longevity. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a high end liquid lipstick with an amazing colour range!
