Does it get any more festive than a red lip? I don’t think so. In fact I have been rocking a red lip for most of November and December! I wear red lipsticks all year round but for me, the one thing that is a must at Christmas time is a good red lipstick. I feel that it totally symbolises Christmas and it’s the one time of year you can get away with it whatever you may be doing – going to work, going to the supermarket or getting dolled up for a night out – red lips are allowed whatever the occasion! This being said, today I thought I would share with you my top 5 red lipsticks to wear over the festive season.
Kylie Cosmetics Mary Jo K
This is a true blue red and will suit anyone no matter what skin tone, hair colour, or eye colour. Everyone has raved about this. It’s perfect if you’re looking to make a statement and once applied, it ain’t budging. So if you need a red lip and don’t want to have to worry about it all day, this is the one for you. This shade compliments my skin tone better than any other red I’ve ever worn and I LOVE it.
Rimmel Kate Moss 107
This shade is a deep berry-toned red with cool undertones and a semi matte finish. When looking at it in its packaging, this lipstick can look a little dark, however once applied the shade softens down and you’re left with the PERFECT red. Although it’s described as a matte finish, I find that it has more of a velvet like texture when on the lips and it’s not at all drying. The application of this lipstick is so easy due to the insane pigmentation and this has been a staple in my makeup bag over the festive season.
MAC Cosmetics Ruby Woo
This is your classic blue toned vivid red lipstick. If you love classic red shades without any pink or orange undertones, this one is for you. It’s in the retro matte formula meaning it has amazing lasting power as well as good pigmentation. I have been wearing this NON STOP since the festive season started and I won’t stop.
MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour Feels So Grand
This shade is what I call a true red. It’s slightly similar to Ruby Woo but I have recently preferred the application and longevity of liquid lipsticks rather than the bullets. This is an epic, perfect red and would work with any skin tone. This is my favourite red in my collection and I would choose this anytime. You’ll catch me wearing this on Christmas day!
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Monte Carlo
I’ve only owned this lipstick for a few weeks now but it’s gone straight onto my list of favourite red shades already. It has a lovely creamy texture, glides on the lips with ease and is super easy to apply. I’d say this a deep cranberry red, my favourite type of red. This matte lip cream sets to a matte finish and unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturising.
