Could these be the most coveted lip product? It’s not surprising when Kylie Jenner recommends a product it sells out straight away, never mind when it’s her own product. The Kylie Lip Kit is the first range of products in her cosmetics line and each kit comes with a matte liquid lipstick and a lipliner. I got my hands on just 2 of the colours – even this was hard going, but I am so happy I managed to get even these as they are amazing.
Nearly 5 months after her initial release date, she now has 8 lip kits, a line of lip glosses and a new line of metallic liquid lipsticks, which debuted just a few days ago. This review is strictly for her lipkits however when my glosses arrive I will be doing a review of them too. I also managed to get one of her metallic lipsticks in ‘Reign’ so let me know if you’d like a review on that when it arrives!
Surprisingly, the prices are relatively cheap, with the lip kits retailing for $29 (just over £20). However, even 5 months after the line was announced, it’s still a struggle for many to get hold of these products, considering they have sold out within 30 minutes during each restock. Trying to order the product once they are available is comparable to an online Black Friday sale. Most of the restocks result in the website crashing in a matter of minutes because of the overflow of traffic, but all you can do is keep refreshing.
The 2 colours I managed to get were Mary Jo k and 22. It’s a long story, I was originally going for Dolce K and Mary Jo K but when I got to checkout, dolce had sold out so truthfully I clicked on a random alternative and didn’t actually realise what I had picked until I got the confirmation email. Needless to say, i am so happy I (accidentally) picked that one because it ended up being my favourite!
Mary Jo K –
This is the brightest colour in the collection so far and is perfect if you’re looking to make a statement. This shade looks amazing on everyone. No matter what skin tone, hair colour, or eye colour, everyone who has tested Mary Jo k has raved about it. It’s a bright bold red that looks like velvet and despite me owning endless amounts of red lipsticks, I don’t own anything quite like this. This one is a must-have.
This shade is named after Kylie’s lucky number. In the tube, the colour looks like a reddish – orange although I think the way it looks on your lips depends on your skin tone. On my skin tone it looks more of a red however on other people I have seen it looks more of an orangey-brown. Regardless, this shade is perfect for the spring, summer and for fall seasons.
My first impression was how impressive the packaging was. From the dripping lips to the glass bottle, everything about the product just oozes ‘cool’. The only bad thing about the packaging is that the bottle doesn’t have a stopper to scrape off the product so the wand gets covered.
The liner glides on like an absolute dream, so silky and smooth. The lipstick is very wet when first applied but soon dries to a matte finish. You also only need one coat which is impressive for a liquid lipstick! The formula is so light weight, meaning it’s not patchy at all and it literally feels like you’re wearing nothing on your lips. Did I mention they smell AMAZING?! There has been mixed reviews on the smell but I personally love sweet smells and these lipsticks are vanilla scented and this is probably my favourite thing about the whole product.
The best part of the product is that is extremely long wearing. You could wear it for 8+ hours straight and there would be very little fading. Overall, I would rate this product a 10/10 just because I love everything about them. All the colours are very versatile and there is a shade for every skin tone. The biggest negative about the whole experience is that it took about 10-15 days to get the package as I am here in the UK. The customs charge is also a big downside but the products are more than worth it. I have fallen head over heels in love with these lip kits. So much so, that I have decided I am going to invest in the rest of the collection. Kylie, you done good.
