I am a lipstick hoarder, I hold my hands up completely. So I thought I would delve into my (rather large) collection of MAC Cosmetics lipsticks to show you my five go to shades, the ones I would rush out and buy again if I ever lost, broke, or finished one. I have included 2 different nudes, a pink, a red and my reliable dark lippy and I would say these 5 lipsticks would be a pretty good starting point if you were looking into purchasing from MAC for the first time.
Ruby Woo is that one red I think every woman should try at least once. I purchased this in the retro matte finish, so it’s very matte and you’ll need some serious lip prep to wear this but the final look is so worth it as it’s a stunning shade. This is a vidid blue-based red which will make any outfit look that little extra bit special, whether you are dressed casual or ready to hit the town.
If you know me, you’ll know I own a horrendous amount of nude lipsticks, and this one is by far my favourite. Yash is described as a ‘deep neutral’, which I think is more suited to warmer skin tones like mine. This was the second MAC lipstick I ever bought and it still remains a firm favourite. This shade is essentially my Velvet Teddy as it’s such an easy to wear colour. This is usually hanging around at the bottom of my handbag too as I can’t seem to be without it. I will recommend this shade left, right and centre and it will never ever leave my collection.
MAC Whirl is described as a ‘dirty rose’ shade, and I would say that description is pretty accurate. The shade is neither warm nor cool. It’s a very neutral colour, meaning it will flatter a lot of skin tones, from light to medium to dark. With me having a medium skin tone it shows the muted pink undertones, however on pale skin I can imagine this shade looking more of a brown shade. This colour is perfect to wear everyday, to any occasion! Inspired by the Kylie Jenner trend, I am so happy MAC decided to release a lipstick version of the original Whirl lip liner.
Diva is one of my most recent additions and I couldn’t be happier that I finally got my hands on this holy grail lipstick. I was looking for a new dark lip for autumn/winter and after looking up swatches online, I was already decided on this shade before I walked in. I understand that Diva and Sin are two very similar shades but there is a definite difference between them. Sin is described as deep, dark blue red whereas Diva is more burgundy based, both beautiful, both matte and both last for ages. If you’re looking for a dark lip to add to the collection then Diva is the one.
All Fired Up
This is my spring/summer shade, it’s the perfect fuchsia pink and it lasts for hours. As it’s a retro matte finish, it is a bit more drying than most lipsticks but it doesn’t transfer at all and you can get away with wearing it all day without reapplying. This shade looks fab with a tan and it’s the one lippy I would always pack when I go on holiday and it’s stunning for day or night wear.
So those are my MAC faves, what are yours? Let me know in the comments!
