One of my favourite things to do, usually over the weekend or on a dull evening, is binge-watch a few seasons of one of my favourite shows. There is very few things better than curling up on the couch with a takeaway and several hours worth of a great show. Not every series is worthy of binge-watching though – here are six of my favourites that make the cut.
I admit, I only started watching this show because everyone was freaking out about it coming back last year. Having nearly binge-watched the entire first season in a matter of days, I wish I would have watched this show a long time ago. It’s such a wholesome show, and it’s hard not to fall in love with the characters and the adorable little town the show takes place in. I love the mother-daughter bond that Rory and Lorelai have – there conversations are always hilarious and full of wit.
GG is definitely my guilty pleasure show – I’ve watched it over and over again. I’m of the firm belief that a girl cannot get enough Chuck Bass in her life. Besides all the drama and romance, I absolutely love the fashion from the show. Blair Waldorf has been my style inspiration for years. It’s a light-hearted show about a group of rich kids from the Upper East Side of Manhattan. As promised, there is gossip, laughter and lots of teen drama.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
This show is so, so (italics) good. There is two seasons up already and I’m eagerly awaiting season 3. This show follows law professor Annalise Keating and her conniving group of students as they go on a calculated killing spree. You will constantly be on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next big shock around every corner. There’s honestly something for everyone in this programme. Powerful woman of colour, LGBTQ characters that are real and relatable as well as problematic characters in which some people find themselves reflected. Fast paced and dark, you’ll never really know who’s the suspect.
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS
I guess everybody has heard of this show. I wouldn’t even know where to start explaining what it’s about, because it’s completely insane if you think too hard about it. PLL is a teen drama mystery thriller style series that focuses on a group of high school students who find themselves being tormented by someone only known as A. Expect drama, suspense and some action.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY
If you want to feel uncomfortable, scared and disturbed..you will LOVE AHS. I wish I had enough time to really go into the story lines that come with AHS but each season is a different concept. If you digest that information now and you’ll save yourself a lot of confusion. The first season focuses on a disturbingly haunted house, the second season takes place in and around an insane asylum, the third (which is my favourite) is all things witchy ad the fourth is centered around the old time concept of freak shows. The writers and actors that make up American Horror Story are such fantastic story tellers that I just had to give them a spot on this list. Do not watch alone in the dark…that’s all I’m saying…
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
I’m telling you now, if you haven’t begun this series yet, DO IT NOW. It’s fantastic. People quite literally went bananas for this when it first launched on Netflix and who could blame them?! The series is based on true life events penned by Piper Kerman regarding her time spent at a minimal security prison in the US. It includes the most colourful characters that you’ll get to know quite well. There are tears, drama, love interests and that’s all wrapped up in a nice little neat bow of dark humour. OITNB is one of those shows I always look forward to if there is a new season coming up. It’s funny, sad, fascinating, angering and uplifting all in one.
