I adore all things Christmas. If you know me at all you will know that I’m in my element when there’s a chill in the air and the shops are filled with festive goodies. Christmas is such a happy and cheerful time of year, I can’t imagine why anyone would NOT like Christmas. So, I thought I would throw together a list of my favourite festive activities in the hope that it will get you all feeling a bit more like a five year old secretly hoping to catch santa crouching down to pick up the carrot you left out for one of the reindeers currently perched on your roof.
1. Buy presents
For many people, the thought of buying gifts at Christmas is an extremely stressful time. But if you take the time to think it through wisely, it’s more enjoyable. Leaving all your shopping until Christmas Eve is a bad idea, so you should probably avoid that. I love planning out what I’m going to buy for people and setting a budget so that I know I can treat everyone. Buying a great present for someone that you know they will love is so satisfying and you can’t beat a present wrapping sessions along with the good old Christmas tunes. You could also pick up some cute lil ribbons from Etsy or your local haberdashery so you can spend time making your presents look extra cute.
2. John Lewis advert
Year after year we eagerly anticipate the release of the John Lewis advert and this year was certainly no exception. It’s become a tradition for the bf and I to watch it together and sob and feel all the festive feels the day it’s released. Thank goodness this years advert isn’t a sad one but it did make me smile. You can also watch all of them from the last few years back to back. You may need a box of tissues to go with them but they’re sure to make you feel cosy and festive! Which one has been your favourite so far?
3. See some Christmas lights
Go for a drive to look at all the Christmas lights in your local area. Best done when you’ve got some good car snacks and some festive tunes on the go.
4. Cosy up to watch a good old Christmas movie
My absolute faves include The Holiday, Love Actually, Home Alone, Elf (obviously), and SO MANY MORE. I can’t lie, I’ve watched them all twice in the last week or so…Which Christmas films get you in the festive spirit?
5. Watch vlogmas
I love re-watching peoples vlogmas’ in the months running up to Christmas but now it’s actually December it means that I have new vlogmas’ to watch everyday! I particularly love watching Zoella’s vlogmas and 24 Days of Zoella, as well as Saffron Barker and the Saccone Jolys. You also can’t beat watching a Christmas special of your favourite TV show. Gavin & Stacey is my absolute favourite but basically any Christmas special of any show ever.
6. Go shopping for Christmas decorations
Visit your local garden centre and do all the oohs and ahhs at the Christmas displays. This is a tradition for me and nothing gets me in the Christmas spirit more.
7. Hit up your local Starbucks or Costa
We all love instagramming our coffee cups (or hot chocolate for me) all year round, but when the festive season is upon us, our fave cups get a makeover and we welcome the Christmas cups. I am LOVING the Starbucks cups this year, these red cups beat Costa’s cups every time, soz.
8. Whack out the Christmas decs
It’s never too early and I’ve never understood people that decorate mid December. Having them up for about a week makes it less worthwhile and you just don’t feel as festive without them. We’ve always had a real tree so that’s what I’m used to and what I love – especially the smell. Even just placing sets of fairy lights all over the house gives the place a more christmassy vibe. My Christmas tree isn’t up yet but it will be this weekend – always the first week of December without fail. The decorations in my room are up though and have been since early November – why not make the most of the festive season? When do you put your Christmas tree up?
9. Festive clothing
I love finding tasteful Christmas jumpers but my favourites are the tacky ones that resemble those in the 80’s. Primark have the best ones every year and I often also search Asos, Topshop and Boohoo for mine. I also seem to find more in the mens section too!
10. Christmas candles
Treat yo’self to a Christmas scented candle that you can have flickering away while you cosy up under you Christmas duvet on the sofa to watch your favourite Christmas movie.
11. Create a Christmas playlist
Is there really anything better to get you in the Christmas spirit than blasting out Christmas music? It is the best thing to lift your mood. Not gonna lie, I’ve been listening to Christmas songs for months but I would say its now socially acceptable to be playing Christmas music throughout your house and in your headphones on the way to work at this time of the year.
12. Buy a giant tin of Quality Street/Heroes/Celebrations and just keep them by your bed and sit there and snack on them while watching Christmas films or your fave vlogmas.
13. And for the most important one, the only one that really matters. Spend time with your friends and family and surround yourself with your favourite people. Spend time with your number ones, eat too much cheese, drink too much mulled wine, play too many games and laugh till your belly hurts. Christmas is the best when you spend it with those closest to you.
I am such a huge lover of baking, and even more so during the festive season. Nothing makes me feel more Christmassy than baking up something sweet in the kitchen and smelling those delicious aromas. Also, baking during the Christmas period means that you can use as much chocolate and cinnamon as you like without anyone judging you, am I right?
15. Invest in a festive duvet set
Sure, it might only be socially acceptable to bring it out for a couple of weeks in the year, but that certainly doesn’t deem it any less wonderful. I’m thinking tartan or cute novelty Christmas patterns and winter themed prints. I find that George at Asda are consistently at the top of the duvet game and they’re also super affordable!
Let me know what gets you in the Christmas spirit!
